British Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French aircraft in a joint strike against an hidden munitions depot in Syria operated by the IS group, per a report from the UK Ministry of Defence.
The facility, pinpointed through surveillance, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the announcement noted, and was located in mountains just north of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"The RAF jets employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to target a series of approach shafts providing entry to the facility... preliminary assessments indicate the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the strike conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft returned to base without incident, the defence officials confirmed.
The Typhoon fighters were assisted by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
